The bug where the wrong word is selected is really weird. Try it yourself. Type "Hello World" into a new memo. Point the mouse to the center of the letter W, and double-click. See? That’s a bug.
Regarding selecting the spaces to the right of the selected word, you do seem to be correct that this behavior exists in other Windows apps. It may seem harmless, but it’s really not. Problems arise when one wants to cut-and-paste the selected word without extraneous spaces, or use it as the name of a hyperlink (test it any you’ll see — the spaces too become part of the clickable link). Also, Notes exhibits this behavior even on Mac OS X, where it is certainly non-standard behavior.
I could ask for the status of these SPRs via colleagues at Big Blue. However, I thought it might be even more effective to take advantage of my new position as an external Lotus Notes customer. Furthermore, I appreciate IBM’s effort to engage in discourse with customers in a more transparent and open way, and I want to contribute to and support that effort.
